Campaigning in Sandton and Alex

Today the Sandton constituency hired a bus to drive around Sandton and Alexandra township canvassing support for the DA. We rendezvoused with Helen ZIlle and Mmusi Maimane who were in Alex for a couple of hours. Here are some pics and a video of the scenes we encountered.

 We arrive in Alex to find Helen and Mmusi revving up the crowd. They hear the SABC has banned our second Ayisafani (Things are not the same) TV ad and rip into SABC censorship

After much persuading, Helen and Mmusi visit the women's hostel next door, home to 3 000 potential DA voters. They are mobbed by a large crowd of well wishes and children.

At the entrance to the hostel a notice was stuck up advertising the bus. Andrew Cadman runs workshops at the hostel every Tuesday about issues facing the residents. 

The children were especially excited by all the goings on.

We then follow them to a creche in Alex where Mmusi hands out DA blankets for winter

All in all a very productive few hours of canvassing. Some polls put us north of 25% nationally with a week to go to the election. We have never been in this territory before.
